Christmas in October Special Programs

Wheelchair Ramp Program

Granting residents with accessibility in and out of their homes is a top priority for Christmas in October. Due to the growing need of elderly and disabled homeowners who are confined to their homes because of physical ailments, Christmas in October has started a wheelchair ramp program.

With the help of eager volunteers and donated lumber, we are able to build dozens of wheelchair ramps for the needy throughout the year. Not only does a ramp provide residents with mobility and freedom, it also enables a safe escape route in case of an emergency.

How to Qualify:

Wheelchair Ramp Program*
The person for whom the wheelchair ramp is built must:
  1. Own only one residence, the home in which they are currently living
  2. Have a physical disability that poses the need for a wheelchair ramp
  3. Apply for aid by submitting an official application

Roof Repair Program

The need for roofing repair is huge in the KC Metro Area. In 2010, Christmas in October received requests from more than 500 elderly and disabled residents that desperately need repairs to their roofs. As a result, we have begun a repair program.

The roof of a home is one of its most important elements; a leaky roof will cause major problems for a homeowner – rotting wood, deteriorating walls and ceilings, and high energy bills. Many Christmas in October clients live in homes that are almost 100 years old and need major roofing repair.
